Reflecting on what you learned in class

In today’s class at Unity Church, I addressed stiffness in the body and used chair for props in Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward facing dog), Utthita Trikonasana (extended triangle pose), Parsvottanasana (intense side stretch of the body pose), and Parivritta Trikonasana (revolved triangle pose).

As reiterated in class, we feel stiffness all over the body in these poses, and as beginners we have to learn that there are different types of stiffnesses in each body part. In yoga we go from Bahiranga (external path) to Antaratma (the path of the soul), and how to penetrate stiffness and understand it’s origin are along the lines of going from the external to the internal.

A good home practice would be to try to recreate some of these poses using a chair and see if you can understand and categorize your stiffnesses while in the pose.
